TradingKey - Manus announced that it will soon resume independent operations, signaling that its spin-off from Meta (META) has entered its final stage. Previously, Meta announced in December 2025 that it would acquire this general-purpose AI agent developer for approximately $2 billion, but Chinese regulators required the deal to be rescinded in April this year, after which both parties initiated a complex operational and data separation process.

In its latest user notice, Manus stated that to comply with regulatory requirements in specific jurisdictions, data generated or updated by certain users on or after December 29, 2025, will be deleted. Affected users can complete backups before 7:59 a.m. on August 23; starting at 8:00 a.m. on August 23, the relevant accounts will be temporarily inaccessible, and the data restoration portal is scheduled to open at 8:00 a.m. on August 25. The company stated that unaffected users can continue to use services normally, and this adjustment is unrelated to any data breach or security incident.

It is reported that Manus was founded in China and later relocated its headquarters to Singapore. Meta originally planned to integrate its AI agent technology into consumer- and enterprise-facing product lines to strengthen its competitiveness against rivals such as Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic.

According to previous reports, Meta and Manus completed operational separation in May and ceased data sharing. The founding team of Manus had also explored financing to buy back equity to fulfill regulatory requirements for rescinding the deal. The company stated that after resuming independent operations, it will continue to iterate on its products and launch more AI agent features.
