The South Korean stock market significantly retraced, with the Seoul Composite Index falling below the 7,000-point mark as soon as the market opened, closing at 6,820 points, down 463 points or 6.37%.

The index remained below 7,000 points throughout the day, peaking at only 6,995 points, still down 288 points or 3.96%; the lowest was 6,730 points, a drop of 553 points or 7.6%.
Both major heavyweight stocks underperformed the market, with Samsung Electronics falling nearly 9%; as for SK Hynix, despite market rumors that local regulators are preparing to introduce ETF-related measures, which may help alleviate the recent impact of leveraged ETFs on the underlying stock's volatility, SK Hynix ultimately still fell over 11% at the close
