In a bit of a surprise note, entertainment giant Paramount Skydance (PSKY) was about to engage in talks with the 12 states that are suing to prevent its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). But those talks recently got shut down, as the states accused Paramount of "leaking." Investors, though, found the whole process a bit tiresome and rewarded Paramount with a modest boost in share prices in the closing minutes of Monday's trading. Paramount has seen a 35.15% loss in its share price over the past year.

Leaking! Playing Games! Other Vague Allegations!
The coalition of states was poised to engage in settlement talks, which the California Attorney General's office, via Attorney General Rob Bonta, was previously seen as being interested in. But Bonta canceled a meeting that was set for today, declaring that Paramount was "playing games." Just what those games were was unclear, but a Wall Street Journal report suggested that Bonta would be looking for cable channel sales and provisions to separate Paramount's and Warner's movie studios in order to pull the coalition out of the way. Given that the Journal's sources were the ever-popular "people familiar with the matter," it is unclear how Bonta knew where the leak came from.
Clocks Tick For Everybody
Meanwhile, Bonta's refusal to deal may be about to cost California over half a billion dollars annually in tax revenue. While we have heard previously that Austin was courting Paramount, and that Georgia also had an interest therein, reports suggest that Tennessee may be pulling ahead as the preferred fate of Paramount. This was also part of a Wall Street Journal report that suggested Tennessee is currently first-choice, based on reports from "…people familiar with the company's thinking."
