I'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.Intel fell another 7.7% today to 110, and it is now down about 21% in seven days. This was not the broad chip selloff, because Nvidia made new highs and AMD rallied on the same day. This was Intel-specific, and the two reasons behind it tell you everything about how brutal the AI cycle is for the companies that fall behind.
Intel's entire turnaround thesis rests on 18A, its next-generation process node that is supposed to win back foundry customers from TSMC. Today the market learned 18A yields will not hit profitable levels until late 2026 or 2027. Every quarter that slips is a quarter competitors extend their lead and a quarter Intel burns cash trying to catch up. A foundry turnaround with no timeline is just hope with a fab attached.
This is the one that stings. AMD reported data center revenue of 5.8 billion dollars, up 57% year over year, surpassing Intel's data center revenue for the first time ever. For decades Intel owned the server market. That era ended this quarter. AMD's EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs are winning the sockets that used to be automatic Intel wins, and once enterprises switch architectures they do not switch back quickly.
Look at the three names side by side today. Nvidia broke 200, AMD rallied on record data center numbers, Intel fell 8%. Same sector, same macro, same Fed minutes. The only variable is execution. The AI buildout is the biggest capex wave in tech history, and it is mercilessly sorting the winners from the losers. Intel is on the wrong side of that sort right now, and the stock is telling you.
I trimmed my $Intel(INTC.US) into the strength weeks ago and I am glad. Down 21% in a week is the kind of move that tempts bottom-fishers, and there is a real bull case if 18A eventually delivers, HSBC has a 200 target on exactly that hope. But I do not buy turnarounds until the turn is visible in the numbers, and right now the numbers are going the wrong way. This is a show-me story, and I would rather pay up later once it proves the base than catch the knife here.
