Tue 6 Oct 2026 | Morning
The Numbers
On Monday the Dow closed at 51,267.90 (+0.18%), the S&P 500 at 7,773.99 (+0.66%) and the Nasdaq at a record 27,477.31 (+1.05%). TheStreet credits mega-cap technology and M&A, led by PTC, up roughly 33% after Schneider Electric agreed to buy it for US$22 billion in cash, and notes the 10-year Treasury yield rose 3.8 basis points to a 52-week high of 5.315%. Brent settled at US$100.32 (-1.89%) on ICE futures, from US$102.25 on Friday. Trading Economics and HDFC Sky attribute the fall to reports of expanding Middle East supply and expectations around the G7 reserve release. USD/SGD is 1.2794.
The STI closed Monday at 5,664.33 (+0.52%), recovering most of Friday's 32.85 point fall, per Trading Economics. The S&P Global Singapore PMI eased to 58.1 in September from a record 59.4 in August, the 19th month of expansion, with input price inflation at a survey record because of vendor shipping delays. SGX opens at 9am.
My Personal Take
On Saturday I told you AP had yields falling after the jobs report, and that I did not have the close. I have it now. TheStreet has the 10-year up 3.8 basis points to 5.315% on Monday, which puts Friday's close near 5.28%. On 1 October it was 5.29%. I had read the weak payroll number as a turn in yields, and as far as the close shows, it left very little mark. What I still do not have is a Singapore print. My last SGS figure is 2.49% from 1 October, so I cannot say whether Singapore followed the US this week. 🦖
