$Netflix(NFLX.US) is cutting about 1,000 jobs, roughly 6% of its global workforce

That is the streamer's biggest round of layoffs since 2022, and Variety calls it the largest cutbacks to date

Most of the reductions hit product, technology, legal, and HR, per an internal note from co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters

The Wall Street Journal broke the story Wednesday morning. Netflix closed 2025 with about 16,000 full-time employees, so a 6% cut lands near that 1,000 figure

Sarandos and Peters framed it as being disciplined about where people and resources get prioritized while the mission stays to entertain the world

$Netflix(NFLX.US) still runs the category, but the stock has had a rough stretch and growth has cooled. A 6% headcount cut this close to earnings says management is optimizing for margins now, not just the subscriber narrative
