2\. One key fits one lock, one piano key produces one note. A person must formulate different investment strategies based on the different stages of their life cycle.

3\. At different ages in your life, the most important investment decision you make may be how to balance asset classes, that is, how to determine the weightings of asset classes such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and money market securities in your investment portfolio.

4\. The actual risk of your investments in stocks and bonds depends on your investment holding period. Your "staying power," that is, how long you can hold on to your investments, plays a crucial role in the actual risk you take when making investment decisions.

5\. If the funds you have on hand can only be invested for one year, then 1-year U.S. Treasury bonds or 1-year bank certificates of deposit guaranteed by the U.S. government are your best investment choices.
