Adding a reference data point from the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) released in June 2026, which I used in my previous paper:
In 2025, there were 8 recorded interstate conflicts globally, the highest level since the end of World War II. Approximately 245,000 people died in direct combat related to political violence globally in 2025, making it the third-highest year since 1989. A total of 55 actors committed unilateral violence in 2025, reaching a record high since 1989.
