# Google Earnings Preview: The Barometer for AI Trading

$Alphabet(GOOGL.US) $Alphabet - C(GOOG.US)

The core of this quarter's earnings report is not "whether advertising is good," but how the market re-prices its AI assets, cloud business, capital expenditures, and search moat. Looking at Google's earnings so far, the focus should be on five key themes:

First Layer: Has the advertising foundation stabilized? Google's core profit source remains advertising. What to focus on? 1. Search Ad Growth If search ad growth remains strong this quarter, it indicates that at least in the short term, the impact of AI search on Google has not yet significantly reflected in the financials. 2. YouTube Performance YouTube is becoming increasingly important as it serves as both an advertising asset and an entry point for AI video, multimodal capabilities, creator ecosystems, and subscription services. Strong growth in YouTube suggests Google still has strong competitiveness in video and streaming ads.

Second Layer: Is Google Cloud continuing to accelerate? Google Cloud is one of the most critical growth assets in the earnings report. However, over the past two years, AI is reshaping the opportunities for Google Cloud. Google has several unique advantages: self-developed TPUs; Gemini models; DeepMind technology reserves; enterprise AI toolchains. If Google Cloud revenue continues to accelerate and margins continue to improve, it shows Google is converting its AI technological advantages into cloud business revenue. This will directly impact the market's valuation of Google. Focus on two indicators: 1. Cloud Revenue Growth If Google Cloud growth approaches or exceeds market expectations, it reinforces the judgment: Google is not just a search advertising company, but also an AI cloud infrastructure company. 2. Cloud Operating Margin The cloud business has historically dragged down profits, but if margins continue to improve now, it indicates economies of scale are starting to kick in. This is crucial for valuation because advertising businesses receive mature internet valuations, while cloud and AI businesses receive growth tech valuations.

Third Layer: Is AI a threat or a re-pricing opportunity? This is the core question in Google's earnings. For the past year or so, market concerns about Google have mainly been: if AI search becomes widespread, will the traditional search ad click model be disrupted? But Google's counterattack is also clear. Therefore, when looking at Google now, the key is not simply judging "whether AI is bullish or bearish," but seeing if Google can prove: AI is not eroding search, but expanding the commercialization boundaries of search, cloud, office, video, and the Android ecosystem.

Fourth Layer: Will capital expenditures continue to be raised? In all major tech earnings reports, Capex is a core variable. If Google continues to raise capital expenditures, the market will have two interpretations. Positive interpretation: it shows strong AI demand, and Google must accelerate investment, which benefits the AI hardware chain. Negative interpretation: the market may worry that AI capex is too heavy; depreciation pressure increases; free cash flow is suppressed; ROI realization time is uncertain; AI search costs are higher than traditional search. So, how Google's stock price moves after earnings depends largely on how the market understands Capex: if revenue and cloud business prove that AI investments yield returns, raising Capex is positive; if revenue realization is not strong enough, raising Capex will be seen as margin pressure.

Fifth Layer: Margins and Cost Control Google has done a lot of cost reduction and efficiency improvement over the past few years, so in the earnings report, we need to see if operating margins continue to improve. If Google can achieve: stable ads; accelerating cloud; increased AI investment; while margins do not collapse; then this is a very strong combination. Implications for the US Stock AI Chain Google's earnings affect not only GOOGL itself but also the entire AI trade. 1. If Google's Capex remains strong, it benefits the AI infrastructure chain: NVDA: GPU demand; TSM: advanced process nodes; ASML: EUV and equipment cycles; AVGO/MRVL: ASICs, network chips; MU: HBM/DRAM; ANET: AI networking; VRT/ETN: data center power and cooling. 2. If Google's cloud business is strong, it benefits cloud and enterprise AI directions: GOOGL; MSFT; AMZN; ORCL; SNOW; DDOG; NET; CRWD and some other cloud software and security companies. 3. If search advertising is very strong It indicates that AI has not yet destroyed the search ad model, benefiting large internet platforms: GOOGL; META; AMZN advertising business; APP; TTD and other ad-tech chains.
