SpaceX's decline is not just due to the failed test launch; hitting a new low since its IPO may reflect concerns ahead of massive share unlocks. Meanwhile, Tesla (TSLA) also faced selling pressure after its earnings report. Short sellers frequently step in, mainly because the valuations of Musk's companies have long been overdrawing future growth, with price-to-sales ratios far exceeding those of traditional giants. Extremely high capital expenditures and opaque financial structures become fatal weaknesses when growth slows down. While Musk's distinct personal brand brings a premium, it also makes stock prices more prone to crashes when sentiment shifts, making them the fattest "bubble" indicator in the eyes of short sellers.
