# Irish Prime Minister describes Apple's unexpected tax payment as an "exciting opportunity" for Ireland

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said that Ireland is considering how to spend the nearly 14 billion euros unexpectedly obtained due to Apple's defeat in a European court case, describing it as an "exciting opportunity" for his country. "Now that the dust has settled, we will have approximately 14 billion euros, and we have many exciting opportunities to consider how to invest these funds in the infrastructure of future generations," he said on a radio program on Thursday. This windfall is equivalent to 14% of this year's government spending, or about 2,700 euros for every adult and child in the country
