The drop follows concerns over competition from a new Chinese AI app, DeepSeek, which was developed at a lower cost and without Nvidia's chips. This has raised fears of reduced demand for Nvidia's products. Additionally, investors are awaiting earnings reports from key partners like Meta and Microsoft, which could impact Nvidia's outlook amid growing competition in the AI sector." datetime: "2025-01-29T20:16:38.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/226615858.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/226615858.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/226615858.md) --- > 支持的语言: [English](https://longbridge.com/en/news/226615858.md) | [繁體中文](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/226615858.md) # Why Nvidia Stock Is Plummeting Today Shares of **Nvidia** (NVDA -5.29%) were sinking Wednesday. The company's stock fell 6.2% as of 2:20 p.m. ET, but lost as much as 6.9% earlier in the day. The move comes as the **S&P 500** (^GSPC -0.39%) and **Nasdaq Composite** (^IXIC -0.54%) lost 0.8% and 1.1%, respectively. The artificial intelligence (AI) superstar continues to struggle in the wake of the release of DeepSeek. Now, the release of another Chinese entrant is stoking fears that the U.S. is lagging behind. ## DeepSeek spooks the market Shares of Nvidia have been on a roller coaster this week after the latest version of DeepSeek -- an AI app from a Chinese start-up -- was released. The model was trained for a small fraction of the cost of its U.S. counterparts and, critically for Nvidia, without the use of Nvidia's best chips. Investors are wary that this will mean demand will cool for the company's chips. The release also sparked fears that the U.S. would fall behind, with tech investor Marc Andreessen calling it a "Sputnik moment." **Alibaba** (BABA 1.83%) did little to help allay those fears today when it announced the release of its latest AI, Qwen 2.5-Max. The company claims the model is more powerful than DeepSeek's. ## Key earnings are this week Nvidia's stock is also likely being held down as investors wait to see numbers from key Nvidia partners like **Meta Platforms** and **Microsoft**, both of which report their earnings after the market closes today. The earnings calls could reveal much as to how the hyperscalers -- the companies that build and operate the massive data centers that power AI and drive Nvidia sales -- view the AI offerings coming from China, what they mean for the industry, and most critically, if they are altering their spending plans. ### 相关股票 - [NVIDIA (NVDA.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/quote/NVDA.US.md) - [Meta Platforms (META.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/quote/META.US.md) - [C3.AI (AI.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/quote/AI.US.md) ## 相关资讯与研究 - [Why Is Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) Rising Today, 3/31/26?](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/281211233.md) - [Why Marvell stock jumped today](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/281272092.md) - [Nvidia’s $2 Billion Investment in Marvell: What Kind of Company Is Marvell?](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/281372238.md) - [Why Nvidia And Tesla Are Suddenly Knocking On Samsung's Door](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/280999748.md) - [OpenAI closes record-breaking $122 billion funding round as anticipation builds for IPO](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/281236900.md)
