# Trump announces a 75-day grace period for TikTok under the "sell or be banned" law

Xinhua News Agency, Washington, April 4 (Reporter Xiong Maoling) - On April 4, U.S. President Trump announced on social media that he would sign an executive order granting TikTok a 75-day grace period under the "sell or be banned" law.

Trump stated that his administration has been working to push for an agreement to "save TikTok" and has "made significant progress," but more work is needed to reach an agreement.

In April 2024, then U.S. President Biden signed a "sell or be banned" bill passed by both houses of Congress, requiring TikTok's parent company ByteDance to sell TikTok to a non-Chinese company within 270 days, or the app would be banned in the U.S. after January 19, 2025.

On January 20 of this year, Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office, granting TikTok a 75-day grace period under the "sell or be banned" law. This grace period was originally set to expire on April 5.
