# Barbie dolls increase in price by 42.9%, US toy industry suffers a "heavy blow" from tariff policies

According to a report from American media on May 5 local time, Barbie doll manufacturer Mattel Inc. announced plans to raise toy prices due to the recent U.S. tariff policy. In its earnings report on May 5, Mattel stated that it would "raise prices on products sold in the U.S. when necessary" to offset the cost increases caused by the tariff policy. Mattel estimated that the tariffs would result in a loss of $270 million for the company this year. Mattel's CEO Ynon Kreiz called for an end to tariffs on toy products on May 5. In fact, some of Mattel's toy prices have already increased. Analysis from the U.S. consulting group The Toy Association shows that the prices of some Barbie dolls sold in the U.S. rose by 42.9% within a week in mid-April. Reports indicate that the U.S. Toy Association stated that 80% of all toys sold in the U.S. are manufactured in China. The recent tariff policy from the U.S. government has had a severe impact on the U.S. toy industry
