# The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce answered reporters' questions regarding the recent announcement by the U.S. to impose additional tariffs and other restrictive measures on China

A reporter asked: Recently, U.S. officials stated that after learning about China's export control measures on rare earths and related items, they proposed a call with China, but China postponed this suggestion. Answer: China has noted the relevant situation. Recently, China has clarified its position regarding the U.S. threat to impose a 100% tariff on China and other restrictive measures. I would like to reiterate that the export control measures on rare earths and related items are legitimate actions taken by the Chinese government in accordance with laws and regulations to improve its own export control system. As a responsible major country, China firmly maintains its national security and international common security. China's export control is not a ban on exports; applications that meet the regulations will continue to be approved, jointly maintaining the safety and stability of the global supply chain.
