# "PE Tycoon" Dan Weijian: The efficiency of Chinese workers is 2 to 3 times that of Americans, yet their wage levels are 80% lower than those in the United States

Dan Weijian selected five industries in his research that have significant producers in both China and the United States and possess quantifiable output data: shipbuilding, integrated steel mills, electric vehicles, solar photovoltaic modules, and the cement industry.

The aggregated data shows that labor productivity in China's manufacturing sector is impressive. In all industries, China's per capita real output is 2.4 times higher than that of the United States. When calculated based on nominal value added, this advantage narrows to an average of 1.2 times. However, the cement industry is an exception: China's per capita real output is only slightly lower than that of the United States, but due to significant price differences, the productivity calculated based on nominal value added is only 28% to 50% of that of American workers.

China's higher labor productivity has not translated into higher wage levels compared to the United States. According to data from the International Monetary Fund, although the purchasing power of the dollar in China is twice that of the United States, the nominal wages of American workers are still five to six times higher than those of Chinese workers.
