In the afternoon, the decline expanded to 320 points, hitting a low of 26,252 points. The index closed down 188 points or 0.7% at 26,384 points; the National Index fell 69 points or 0.74% to close at 9,328 points; the Hang Seng Tech Index dropped 55 points or 1% to 5,756 points. The total market turnover for the day was HKD 217.613 billion. In the tech sector, Alibaba (09988.HK) closed flat at HKD 154.9, Tencent (00700.HK) fell 0.7%, and Meituan (03690.HK) rose 0.3%. Xiaomi (01810.HK) and Kuaishou (01024.HK), which are set to announce earnings this week, fell 0.9% and 0.4%, respectively, while Baidu (09888.HK) dropped 3%.
