# AMD, Cisco, and Saudi Humain Company establish an artificial intelligence joint venture

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Cisco Systems, and the Saudi Arabian artificial intelligence startup Humain announced the establishment of a joint venture to build data centers in the Middle East. The CEOs of the three companies revealed in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday that the joint venture has signed its first customer.

Humain CEO Tareq Amin stated that the unnamed joint venture will initially launch a 100-megawatt data center project in Saudi Arabia; Humain has signed an agreement with generative video startup Luma AI to provide computing power for the data center. Previously, the scale of the project and information about the first customer had not been disclosed.

"Luma AI will be the first customer of this data center cluster," Amin added, stating that Luma AI has signed an agreement to purchase the entire 100 megawatts of computing capacity from the data center.

The formation of the joint venture by the three companies stems from a series of cooperation agreements announced during U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to Riyadh in May this year; this week, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is expected to meet with Trump in Washington, where they are anticipated to reach more cooperation agreements. The Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund has supported Humain and its plans for large-scale data center construction across the country, thanks to Saudi Arabia's ample available land resources and cheap electricity.

American tech companies such as Nvidia and Qualcomm also reached cooperation agreements with Saudi Arabia in May this year.

In May, AMD announced a $10 billion partnership with Humain, which includes Humain purchasing AMD's advanced AI chips. Executives from the three companies stated that in this newly established joint venture, both AMD and Cisco will be minority shareholders and will jointly bear the profits and losses of the project; AMD CEO Lisa Su pointed out that Humain will lead the operations of the joint venture.

"We will share responsibility to ensure the success of the joint venture," Su stated.

The three companies did not disclose further financial details.

Amin mentioned that the market the joint venture plans to serve covers Asia, Europe, India, the Middle East, and Africa, with a total population coverage of approximately 4.5 billion.

According to the plan, by 2030, the joint venture will build new data centers with a total computing capacity of 1 gigawatt (1000 megawatts) to support business operations.

In the construction of the initial 100-megawatt data center, Cisco will provide networking equipment and other infrastructure, while AMD will supply its MI450 AI chips. Amin revealed that the first phase of the project is planned to start construction in 2026 and will be powered entirely by renewable energy; additionally, Humain has received some purchase orders for future expansion projects Amin stated that the construction work for various projects has not yet started.

In addition to providing infrastructure equipment, Cisco will also mobilize its sales team to assist in promoting the computing capacity of these upcoming data centers. Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins mentioned that Cisco has accumulated rich experience in developing incentive mechanisms for sales teams over the past 25 years and plans to leverage this advantage to help Humain promote the computing capacity of the data centers
