# SpaceX Buys Over 1,000 Cybertrucks as Tesla Struggles With Weak Demand

SpaceX, which is run by Elon Musk, has bought more than 1,000 Cybertrucks from Tesla (TSLA, Financials) since the automaker's electric pickup truck isn't selling as well as it used to. Electrek was the first to report on the move, which seems to be an effort to cut down on Tesla's expanding stock of Cybertrucks since sales have been underwhelming.

Tesla could make between $80 million and $160 million in internal sales from the trucks, which cost $80,000 apiece. Even while there was a lot of enthusiasm at first and more than a million preorders in 2019, just around 60,000 of those reservations have turned into real sales.

Some people say that the deal between companies shows how hard it is for Tesla to satisfy expectations for the Cybertruck, which has gotten a lot of criticism for its price, range, and design revisions since it came out. Some people also wondered whether it was right for SpaceX, which gets government contracts, to acquire cars that weren't marketed by another Musk-owned firm.

Analysts believe the move shows how Tesla's electric vehicle industry is becoming harder as competition from Chinese carmakers heats up and demand in the U.S. drops because of changing government rules.
