# Global chip stocks surge as NVIDIA CEO's speech at Davos boosts AI trading enthusiasm

Global semiconductor stocks rose, with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's speech at the Davos Forum further enhancing investors' enthusiasm for the artificial intelligence trading theme.

Memory chip manufacturer Samsung Electronics surged over 6% on Thursday, reaching an all-time high and pushing the South Korean benchmark Kospi index above 5,000 points for the first time. Boosted by NVIDIA's stock price increase, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose more than 3% on Wednesday, setting a new record.

Market risk sentiment overall improved after Trump stated that he would not impose tariffs on European countries opposing the U.S. acquisition of Greenland. Jensen Huang's speech further fueled the rally, as he mentioned at the World Economic Forum that global AI infrastructure will require trillions of dollars in investment.

Intel is set to release its earnings report later on Thursday, which may further disclose key industry capital expenditure plans. Apple Inc. and Meta Platforms Inc. will announce their earnings next week.

Disco Corp. soared 17% in Tokyo, as the chip equipment manufacturer's earnings data exceeded expectations. Taiwan Semiconductor rose 1.7%
