# WPP is expected to lay off employees after integrating its creative department, with details of the integration likely to be announced by the end of February | Lianhe Zaobao

Global advertising giant WPP plans to integrate its three creative agencies into one entity, with the merged business expected to share more backend resources, and this adjustment is anticipated to lead to layoffs.

The Financial Times reported on Monday (February 9) citing informed sources that in order to streamline its large operational structure, WPP plans to incorporate Ogilvy, VML, and AKQA into a framework called "WPP Creative," aiming to cut costs and provide clients with a single service point.

The WPP Creative division will operate alongside the existing integrated media and production departments, with each independent agency expected to maintain its autonomy.

As the related plans are still under discussion, sources revealed that changes to the plan may occur. WPP is also expected to unveil new plans to increase investment in artificial intelligence services. Company executives emphasized the need to accelerate the development of internal AI tools to respond to competitive services launched by tech giants that could take away business.

WPP is expected to announce the restructuring news around the end of February, coinciding with the company's earnings release.

The Financial Times noted that WPP's new president, Cindy Rose, is under pressure to quickly propose a plan to reverse the group's decline. Due to client losses and profit warnings, the group's stock price has plummeted by two-thirds over the past year and was removed from the FTSE 100 index for the first time in nearly 30 years at the end of last year.

Additionally, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday (10th) citing informed sources that the integration plan will allow for more shared backend resources, which may lead to layoffs. The entire industry is accelerating consolidation, with Omnicom's recent acquisition of the Interpublic Group expected to reduce headcount by 23,000.
