Stewart Brookfield will bump up its quarterly dividend 17% after a strong quarter for the investment firm's asset management business. Distributable earnings, a measure of cash that can be returned to shareholders, slipped to $1.59 billion, or 67 cents a share, for the three months from $1.61 billion, or 67 cents, a year earlier. That beat the roughly $1.48 billion analysts polled by FactSet were expecting. Net income across Brookfield's business soared to $1.68 billion, or $743 million attributable to shareholders, from $101 million, or an attributable $432 million. Revenue for the quarter increased 3.8% to $20.16 billion. Brookfield's board declared a quarterly payout of 7 cents a share, representing an annual dividend of 28 cents, which will be payable March 31 to shareholders of record at the close of business March 17. The company said its asset management business delivered record distributable earnings in the latest quarter, bolstered by strong fundraising across its flagship and complementary strategies. The segment's distributable earnings rose 7.5% on a year period. Its wealth solutions segment notched a 2.1% rise in distributable earnings over a year earlier, helped over the year by a strong investment performance and an expansion of the insurance asset base. Earnings from the monetization of mature assets were $88 million. Toronto-based Brookfield ended December with a record $188 billion of capital available for new investments. That includes $77 billion of cash, financial assets and undrawn credit lines, plus $111 billion of uncalled private fund commitments. Brookfield's majority owned Brookfield Asset Management arm earlier this month said it would lift its dividend 15% after fourth-quarter distributable earnings increased to $767 million from $649 million a year prior. Its fee-related earnings increased 28% to an all-time high $867 million for the period. Write to Robb M.
