# Google launches the $499 Pixel 10a ahead of the iPhone 17e release

Alphabet Inc.'s Google has launched the latest entry-level Pixel smartphone, hoping to compensate for the limited overall updates with new artificial intelligence (AI) software features, subtle hardware improvements, and a maintained price of $499.

Google announced on Wednesday that the Pixel 10a is now available for pre-order and will start shipping on March 5. Like other recently launched Pixel phones, the 10a will receive seven years of software and security updates. The model will be available in multiple colors, including Fog (light green), Obsidian (black), Berry (red), and Lavender.

The company will also launch matching green and red Pixel Buds 2a headphones, priced at $129. This new phone can be purchased directly from Google or through carrier partners.

As the Pixel 10a is released, Apple will also launch a new entry-level model, the iPhone 17e. This device is expected to be released soon, priced at $599, the same as last year's iPhone 16e. If Apple maintains its pricing, it will provide Google with room to highlight its $100 lower price advantage.

 The camera of the Pixel 10a is flush with the back of the device, which is relatively rare in today's smartphones.

The screen brightness of Google's new device is slightly improved compared to last year's Pixel 9a, and more recyclable materials have been used in the aluminum frame and plastic back cover. However, aside from the new color options, a flatter back design, and a slight increase in wireless charging power (from 7.5 watts to 10 watts), there are not many noticeable upgrades in hardware.

The 10a features a completely flat back design, which is relatively rare in smartphones. However, this design comes at the cost of using a smaller camera sensor on the 10a compared to higher-end models.

Another compromise is that, although Google claims to have slightly narrowed the bezels, the display bezels of the 10a are still wider than those of the higher-end, sleeker Pixel 10 Pro.
