# Nikkei Index breaks through 59,000 points for the first time due to weakened prospects of early interest rate hikes and NVIDIA's earnings report

Due to the weakening expectations of an imminent interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan and the strong performance of chip manufacturer NVIDIA, Japan's Nikkei 225 index broke through the 59,000-point mark for the first time on Thursday, surpassing the record set in the previous trading session. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 1.2% in the morning to 59,295.93 points. The broader TOPIX index climbed 1.2% to 3,890.08 points, also reaching a historical high during the session. The Nikkei index saw 126 stocks rise and 43 stocks fall. So far this year, the Nikkei index has increased by 16.4%
