# Apple upgrades its laptop product line, raising the starting prices of several models

Apple Inc. has updated its two major laptop product lines, equipping the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with faster processors and raising prices amid a tight supply of memory chips across the industry.

On Tuesday, Apple released new models, with the MacBook Air featuring the M5 chip and the MacBook Pro equipped for the first time with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The company also updated its external display product line, launching two new models aimed at consumers and professional users, respectively.

The new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro have the same appearance as their predecessors but come with faster processors, new storage configurations, enhanced graphics performance, and for the first time, support for WiFi 7 standards and Apple's self-developed N1 wireless chip.

The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at $1,099, up from the previous $999; the 15-inch version's starting price has been raised from $1,199 to $1,299, higher than the previous $1,199. To mitigate the impact of the price increase, Apple has doubled the base storage capacity of this series to 512GB for the first time.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chip has seen its price rise from $1,999 to $2,199, while the 16-inch version has increased from $2,499 to $2,699. The 14-inch version equipped with the higher-end M5 Max chip has its starting price raised from $3,199 to $3,599, and the 16-inch version's starting price has increased from $3,499 to $3,899.

The base storage capacity of the MacBook Pro series has also been increased to at least 1TB. Apple is also offering hundreds of dollars in discounts for users purchasing through the education store.

The new external displays include the standard Studio Display and the Studio Display XDR, both featuring a 27-inch screen, a 12-megapixel FaceTime camera, and high-quality speakers. The XDR version has an enhanced dynamic range screen, aimed at professional users such as photo and video editors.

The standard display starts at $1,599, while the XDR version starts at $3,299
