# The Significance of the Strait of Hormuz to the Asian Power System

Asia's power system has about a 20% reliance on Middle Eastern liquefied natural gas (LNG). Once Qatar Energy announces force majeure leading to LNG supply disruptions, it will pose significant risks to Asian data centers and power grids.

Morgan Stanley believes that the power, industrial, and transportation sectors each account for about one-third of Asia's imported natural gas consumption, while Asia as a whole accounts for half of global LNG consumption. Among them, India and Thailand have the highest exposure to spot LNG, while Malaysian and Indonesian utility companies are less affected by fuel supply issues. Japan and South Korea import 11-20% of their LNG from the Middle East, primarily for power generation; Singapore has a smaller reliance on Middle Eastern LNG.
