# Dow and three other chemical stocks surged due to the Iran war

Chemical stocks CF Industries, Lyondellbasell Industries NV, Dow, and Mosaic rose due to the Iran war, becoming the four best-performing stocks in the S&P 500 index on Thursday.

With the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, up to one-third of the global fertilizer supply is affected, leading to a sharp rise in the prices of raw materials such as nitrogen, ammonia, and urea, which in turn boosted chemical stocks.
