# Understanding the Market | Tencent opened down over 4%, with fourth-quarter results significantly exceeding expectations; future buyback investments may be reduced for AI development

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Tencent (00700) opened down more than 4%, and as of the time of writing, it has fallen by 4.09%, trading at HKD 528, with a transaction volume of HKD 1.093 billion.

On the news front, on March 18, Tencent Holdings released its financial report for the fourth quarter, achieving revenue of RMB 194.37 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13%; Non-IFRS operating profit was RMB 69.52 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17%. For the full year, revenue reached RMB 751.77 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14%; Non-IFRS operating profit was RMB 280.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18%.

It is worth noting that in terms of capital allocation, Tencent will seek a balance between investment in AI and shareholder returns. Tencent's President, Liu Chiping, stated that considering the high return potential in the AI field, the company may reduce share buybacks when the stock price is relatively low and allocate more resources to AI development.
