# AMZN: Amazon stock investors welcome significant robot news

Amazon has acquired Fauna Robotics to develop humanoid robots for household tasks, marking a new round of its foray into the consumer robotics field.

According to insiders, the deal was completed last week, and the financial terms were not disclosed.

Fauna Robotics has been developing a humanoid robot named Sprout, designed to handle small household tasks such as picking up items and retrieving objects around the home. This approximately 42-inch tall robot is capable of walking, opening doors, recognizing its name, and engaging in social interactions with users.

The system is powered by NVIDIA's Jetson Orin robotics platform, a computing system for advanced robotics and artificial intelligence applications. Sprout's design also allows it to accumulate experience over time, improving interactions and responses.

The robot is currently priced at around $50,000, which includes software, interchangeable grippers, and a detachable battery that provides about three hours of usage per charge.

Fauna Robotics will operate as "Fauna, an Amazon company" within Amazon's personal robotics group, with co-founders Rob Cochran and Josh Merel expected to remain and transition the business to an Amazon office in New York
