The market is focused on TSMC's progress in silicon photonics. On the 31st, the SEMI International Semiconductor Industry Association held a forum titled "Silicon Photonics Mass Production Revolution: The Optical Future of AI Data Centers" through its SEMI Silicon Photonics Industry Alliance (SiPhIA), gathering key industry players such as TSMC, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Coherent, Lumentum, Sumitomo Electric, and Advantest to comprehensively analyze the two core thresholds and current solutions for silicon photonics moving towards mass production. TSMC reiterated that its COUPE platform is expected to enter mass production as planned this year. TSMC's Advanced Packaging Integration Director, Hou Shangyong, stated: "The advancement of CPO technology requires collaborative innovation across all links of the supply chain. TSMC's COUPE platform integrates electronic integrated circuits with photonic integrated circuits through SoIC technology, and is expected to enter mass production this year, marking the official transition of silicon photonics packaging technology from validation to commercial deployment. Breakthroughs in the three key areas of wafer testing, fiber array units, and high-speed optical packaging assembly will be crucial in determining whether CPO can be successfully scaled. TSMC looks forward to advancing the establishment of standards and mass production in these three areas through the cross-enterprise collaboration framework of SiPhIA with industry partners." The SEMI Silicon Photonics Industry Alliance (SEMI SiPhIA) was established by SEMI in 2024 as an important connection platform for the silicon photonics industry, dedicated to promoting technological innovation and application development, facilitating the formulation of industry standards and breakthroughs in key technologies. Through knowledge sharing, resource integration, and technical exchanges, SEMI SiPhIA strengthens collaboration among industry, government, academia, and research, creating a globally competitive silicon photonics ecosystem. As for TSMC, it is expected to reveal its next-generation advanced logic process technology A14 at the North America Technology Forum as early as 2025, with mass production anticipated in 2028.
