Danone booked a rise in like-for-like sales in the second quarter, bolstered by strong volume growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
The French food company behind Activia yogurt and Evian water booked sales growth of 4.2% on a like-for-like basis in the second quarter. Product volumes grew 1.9%, while pricing was up 2.3% on year.
Analysts had anticipated like-for-like growth of 3.7%, according to company-compiled expectations.
On a reported basis, sales were 7.22 billion euros ($8.22 billion), compared with 6.91 billion euros in the same period a year prior and well above company-compiled analysts' expectations.
Its sales in Asia-Pacific were exceptionally robust, up 5.2% on a like-for-like basis in the second quarter. Sales growth in the region was led by volume mix, which grew 3.5%, while price grew 1.6%.
In its essential dairy and plant-based category in the region, sales grew 13% on a like-for-like basis for the quarter. Japan drove demand for Oikos and Activia brands, Danone said.
Danone confirmed its full-year expectations of like-for-like sales growth between 3% and 5%.
