# SpaceX has made significant progress, but disintegrated over the Indian Ocean at the last moment.

SpaceX lost contact with the Starship before reentering the atmosphere, shortening the mission time.

On Thursday morning at 9:25 Eastern Time, SpaceX successfully launched the Starship from its interstellar base, marking the third test flight of its Starship rocket. The rocket was successfully sent into space, a significant milestone for SpaceX as it demonstrates the potential for long-distance space missions in the future.

Shortly after the rocket launch, Tesla congratulated the company in a post, announcing, "Starship has reached orbital velocity!" This signifies that the rocket has successfully achieved the speed required to maintain orbit around the Earth.

Compared to previous tests, this rocket flew a longer distance. The entire flight was expected to last for an hour, with plans for a splashdown landing in the Indian Ocean. However, during the final stages of the test, the rocket disintegrated as it flew over the Indian Ocean.
