# S&P 500 index fell slightly, with most of the 11 major sectors declining

The S&P 500 index opened lower on Thursday (October 10th) after the release of US CPI data, then briefly fluctuated before turning higher, but still closed slightly down. The energy sector rose by nearly 1%. The real estate sector and the communication services sector each fell by nearly 1%, while the consumer staples sector and the industrial sector each fell by at least 0.5%
