# Reporting: OpenAI plans to launch the next generation model "Orion" before December, with capabilities 100 times that of GPT-4

"GPT-5" to Debut by the End of the Year!

On Friday, according to the tech media The Verge, OpenAI plans to launch the next-generation model "Orion" before December.

Previously, according to sources familiar with the matter as reported by The Verge, **Orion will not debut through ChatGPT. OpenAI plans to first grant access to closely collaborating companies, with Microsoft engineers preparing to deploy the Orion model on Azure cloud as early as November.**

The report also added that while internally the Orion has been seen as the successor to GPT-4, it is not certain whether it will ultimately be named GPT-5. The release schedule may change and could be delayed.

Wall Street News previously mentioned that **the Orion model was developed from synthetic data by the OpenAI o1 (formerly known as "Strawberry") project, originally planned to be launched early next year.**

Public information indicates that Orion aims to achieve exponential improvements, reaching capabilities 100 times stronger than GPT-4, aiming to seamlessly handle text, images, and videos, marking a significant leap in language processing and multimodal capabilities.

Some analysts suggest that Strawberry and Orion represent OpenAI's vision for the future of artificial intelligence. Strawberry will redefine reasoning abilities, while Orion promises unprecedented performance improvements—**both will serve as building blocks for the next-generation flagship model GPT-5.**

Previously, OpenAI executive Shaun Ralston posted on the X platform that, according to the planned goals, Orion's computing power will be 100 times that of GPT-4, and its launch will signify a new era in AI capabilities. It is reported that OpenAI's ultimate goal is to continuously iterate to build large models, ultimately achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

The release of Orion comes at a crucial moment for OpenAI. According to previous reports, OpenAI has just completed a historic $6.6 billion financing, with a valuation of $157 billion. Under the agreement of this round of financing, OpenAI is set to fully restructure into a for-profit enterprise within 2 years, potentially accelerating the company's commercialization process
