# Nissan and Honda merger talks collapse, Japanese executives urge Tesla to invest in Nissan

On February 21, Jin Shi Data reported that following the breakdown of merger talks between Japanese automaker Nissan and its competitor Honda, a high-level group involving former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has developed a plan for Elon Musk's Tesla to invest in struggling Nissan. According to three people familiar with the matter, this new proposal, led by former Tesla board member Hiroshi Mizuno, has the support of former Prime Minister Suga and his former aide Hiroto Izumi. Several board members of Nissan are also aware of this initiative. These insiders stated that the group hopes Tesla can become a strategic investor in Nissan, as they believe that, as the world's largest pure electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla is eager to acquire Nissan's factories in the United States.
