# Historic Moment: BYD's European Sales Soar 169% in April, Surpassing Tesla for the First Time!

BYD's sales of electric vehicles in Europe have surpassed Tesla for the first time, overtaking the American brand that has long dominated the European electric vehicle market. According to data from market research firm Jato Dynamics, BYD registered 7,231 new electric vehicle sales in April. This represents a 169% increase compared to the same period last year, placing BYD among the top ten electric vehicle brands by sales. Tesla's registration sales, on the other hand, plummeted by 49%, dropping one rank. "Although the monthly sales totals of the two companies may not differ significantly, the impact is enormous," said Jato Dynamics analyst Felipe Munoz in an email statement. "This is a watershed moment for the European automotive market."
