埃及石油和礦產資源部 9 月 8 日宣佈，埃及天然氣控股公司與英國石油公司當天簽署一份諒解備忘錄，計劃在地中海鑽探五口新的天然氣井。據路透社報道，這份文件簽署正值埃及政府努力提高油氣產量之際。報道説，本次簽署的項目預計明年啓動，計劃鑽探的天然氣井深度從 300 米到 1500 米不等。另據《今日埃及》月刊報道，上述項目旨在利用尼羅河三角洲西部地區現有基礎設施，加快埃及天然氣儲量的開採和生產。（新華社）
