# Ueda Kazuo warns that global uncertainty will affect Japan's wage outlook

Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated that the central bank will carefully examine the impact of U.S. tariffs and long-term uncertainties in the overseas economy, and whether they will hinder companies from raising wages. If the economic and price trends align with the central bank's expectations, it will continue to raise interest rates.

He emphasized that there are various uncertainties regarding Japan's economic outlook, such as the weak U.S. labor market and the impact of U.S. tariff increases on Japanese corporate profits. If uncertainties in the overseas economy and trade policies remain high, companies may focus more on cost-cutting, which could potentially dampen wage growth.

After Kazuo Ueda's speech, the yen weakened, currently down 0.3% to 147.62 against the U.S. dollar
