Although copper prices have risen by about 6% this month, they remain below the historic high reached at the end of July. On Thursday, the three-month copper contract on the London Metal Exchange (LME) fell by 2.6%, closing at USD 10,897 per ton, down USD 287 from the previous trading day, ending a six-day upward trend. On Wednesday, during intraday trading, copper prices briefly touched a record high of USD 11,188.5 per ton. Since the beginning of this month, copper prices have risen by about 6%. In the U.S. market, copper prices are currently still about 10% lower than the historic high set at the end of July. Previously, concerns over tariffs imposed by the Trump administration led speculators to stock up in advance, pushing copper prices higher; however, the tariff measures ultimately turned out to be milder than expected, leading to a significant price correction. Copper is seen as a "barometer" of the global economy due to its widespread use in construction, electricity, and manufacturing. The strong rise on Wednesday was mainly driven by optimistic expectations regarding the outcomes of trade talks between China and the U.S. However, despite the temporary positive news from the meeting, the trade situation has not fully emerged from difficulties. Uncertainties on the supply side have also been a significant driver of the recent rise in copper prices. On Wednesday, mining giant Glencore (GLNCY.US) lowered its production forecast for 2025; earlier this week, Anglo American (NGLOD.US) warned that a major mine in Chile would not meet production targets; in September, a flood at Freeport-McMoRan's (FCX.US) Indonesian mine resulted in worker casualties and forced the company to lower its production expectations. As a result, the stock prices of these three mining companies all fell by about 1% on Thursday. However, a report released by Goldman Sachs on Thursday pointed out that concerns over a supply crisis may be exaggerated. Analyst Eoin Dinsmore stated that any potential supply gap could be offset by "strong scrap copper exports stimulated by high prices and increased production from marginal producers." Goldman Sachs expects copper prices to hover at high levels between USD 10,000 and USD 11,000 per ton, but "the likelihood of any sustained breakthrough beyond this range is low." ### 相關股票 - [Freeport Mcmoran (FCX.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/FCX.US.md) ## 相關資訊與研究 - [Freeport Provides Update on Wardens Hearing on Renewal of Exploration License for Yandera Copper Project | FEERF Stock News](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280625889.md) - [Great Pacific Gold Confirms Broad Mineralized Zone at Kavasuki Target in Papua New Guinea](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280505867.md) - [Gold Hunter shifts from quiet buildup to fully funded drilling push at Newfoundland gold district](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281261616.md) - [Warren Buffett teams up with NBA superstar Stephen Curry for charity lunch, reviving iconic auction](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281182480.md) - [BUZZ-Street View: Nike's turnaround remains work in progress](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281331333.md)
