The case will be brought to the Eastern Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning (6th). Among the 16 individuals charged are 6 core members, 7 heads of cryptocurrency over-the-counter (OTC) exchanges, 3 puppet account holders, and well-known online influencers (KOL) responsible for promotion, some of whom are former classmates. The police have also notified Interpol to issue red notices for 3 fugitives, believed to be 2 masterminds of the group and 1 key member. So far, the police have received reports from over 2,700 individuals regarding the JPEX case, claiming losses exceeding HKD 1.6 billion, and have arrested a total of 80 people, freezing HKD 228 million in funds. Chief Superintendent Wong Chan-yu of the Commercial Crime Bureau stated that the JPEX case is very complex, involving a long investigation of massive amounts of data and transaction records, along with legal monitoring, ultimately leading to the discovery of crucial evidence. After consulting legal advice from the Department of Justice, they believe there is sufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution.
