# HSBC: The Bank of Thailand is expected to cut interest rates due to growth concerns

HSBC ASEAN economist Aris Dacanay reported that, given the latest changes in U.S. trade policy that have heightened concerns about economic growth, the Bank of Thailand may lower its policy interest rate in December. He noted that domestic and external adverse factors were taken into account at the last interest rate-setting meeting. However, the recent reduction of the tariff on fentanyl from 20% to 10% by the U.S. has weakened the competitive advantage of Thailand and other ASEAN economies. "This poses a new adverse factor for Thailand's medium-term economic outlook, which the Bank of Thailand may consider at its next meeting in December," Dacanay said
