# Berkshire (BRK) restarts yen bond issuance, adding fuel to the global $6 trillion hot bond market

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A.US) has hired banks to arrange a potential issuance of yen-denominated bonds, marking a record-breaking year for bond issuance by issuers worldwide.

If this issuance goes ahead, it will be Warren Buffett's company’s second foray into the yen bond market this year. This week, there has been a rebound in bond trading by overseas issuers in Japan's domestic yen bond market, with Renault and Slovenia preparing to price their bonds.

Berkshire Hathaway is one of the largest issuers in the yen bond market, and given the company's holdings in several major Japanese trading companies, there is significant attention on how it will utilize yen funds.

Hiroshi Namioka, Chief Strategist at T&D Asset Management, stated: "Considering that Berkshire currently holds a large amount of cash, its move to issue yen-denominated bonds indicates that the company sees investment opportunities in Japan—funds may flow to trading companies."

Berkshire's bond issuance signals that "from a global perspective, the stock prices of Japanese trading companies remain low and undervalued, which is positive for related stocks."

As issuers take advantage of loose market conditions to finance various activities from the AI project boom to a resurgence in mergers and acquisitions, global bond issuance has surged to a record level of approximately $6 trillion this year.

Berkshire Hathaway's AA rating, along with the potential for higher spreads compared to domestic companies with equivalent credit ratings, has made its past bond issuance one of the largest in the yen bond market
