# The U.S. Senate passes a funding bill, and the government is expected to end the shutdown

The U.S. Senate passed a funding bill with 60 votes in favor and 40 against, bringing the U.S. government closer to ending the longest shutdown in history.

The current agreement will reverse the layoffs that occurred during the government shutdown and provide funding for the Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, military construction projects, and congressional operations until the end of this fiscal year. The agreement will also fund all other agencies until January 30 of next year.

Additionally, the agreement includes a provision for a vote on the Affordable Care Act before the end of the second week of December.

The bill must be approved by the House of Representatives for the government to reopen. House members have been notified to vote on government funding
