# As gold prices rise, Australian gold stocks hit a two-week high

The Australian gold stock index rose by as much as 3.6%, reaching its highest level since October 22. The index shows that spot gold prices surged nearly 3% on Monday. This was due to poor performance in U.S. economic data, which heightened market expectations for a Federal Reserve interest rate cut. Industry giant Northern Star Resources saw its stock price increase by 3.6%, while smaller competitor Evolution Mining's stock price rose by 3.7%.
