# Hollywood screenwriters say: The acquisition of Warner Bros. "must be stopped"

The Writers Guild of America stated that Netflix's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery's production and streaming businesses "must be blocked" as it threatens their interests. Michael O’Leary, CEO of the cinema industry trade organization Cinema United, stated that this proposed acquisition poses an unprecedented threat to "global cinema operations." Although Netflix has historically avoided theatrical releases for its feature films, co-CEO Ted Sarandos has promised that Warner Bros. will continue to release films in theaters as part of the deal
