# Consumer Reports unveils 10 best and worst car brands for 2026

Anyone shopping for a car may be wondering which brands are the best and worst in 2026.

Consumer Reports, an independent research nonprofit, ranked 31 car manufacturers. The ratings are based on the averages of new vehicles‘ overall score, which factors in results from road tests, safety assessments and reliability and owner satisfaction surveys.

Out of 31 car manufacturers, these are the top 10 best and worst car brands for next year.

## Best car brands in 2026

In ascending order, these are the best car brands, per Consumer Reports.

1.  Subaru
2.  BMW
3.  Porsche
4.  Honda
5.  Toyota
6.  Lexus
7.  Lincoln
8.  Hyundai
9.  Acura
10.  Tesla

## Worst car brands in 2026

In descending order, these are the worst car brands, per Consumer Reports.

1.  Jeep
2.  Land Rover
3.  GMC
4.  Dodge
5.  Alfa Romeo
6.  Rivian
7.  Chrysler
8.  Chevrolet
9.  Mercedes-Benz
10.  Volkswagen

Not all car brands were included.

“We include an automaker in our brand rankings only if we’ve tested at least two of its current models,” the nonprofit said. “For this reason, you won’t see ratings here for Fiat, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lucid, Maserati, Polestar or Ram.”
