Omar Fateh (D) on Sunday, Fateh fired back, saying Vance “took time away from the couch to try out comedy.” Vance, during his speech at Turning Point’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, said that Democrats “are not sending their best,” referencing Fateh’s unsuccessful candidacy for Minneapolis mayor. The vice president said that Fateh, a democratic socialist who is of Somali descent, was Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) “candidate for mayor of \[Somalian capital\] Mogadishu. Wait, I mean Minneapolis.” “Little Freudian slip there,” Vance added, smiling as the crowd laughed along. Later Sunday, Fateh retorted by saying on the social platform X that his father “came to America on a scholarship in the early 60’s, during the civil rights era, and earned a masters in engineering.” The Minnesota lawmaker, who was born in Washington, D.C., added that he is “proud” to represent Minneapolis in the state Senate. Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), meanwhile, also poked fun at Vance’s comments, saying, “Wow so authentic” on X on Sunday night. Fateh, backed by Omar, was one of a host of challengers to take on incumbent Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) earlier this year. Frey, though, won reelection to a third term in November. President Trump has also criticized the Somali community in Minnesota in recent weeks. Dozens of individuals of Somali descent have been implicated in a widespread fraud scandal involving the North Star State’s social programs. ## 相關資訊與研究 - [DOJ sues Minnesota, alleging Title IX violations over transgender athletes](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281062867.md) - [Less than one per cent of phone theft cases lead to a criminal charge, figures show](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281058089.md) - [Audits Spotlight Unusual Trends In Medicaid Spending For Autism Care](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280882973.md) - [VERSABANK TO SELL ITS ONLY BANK BRANCH IN HOLDINGFORD, MINNESOTA, TO STEARNS BANK | VBNK Stock News](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280302535.md) - [08:33 ETInc.
