# OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI and other AI giants face copyright lawsuits filed by writers

On December 22nd local time, a group of writers, including two-time Pulitzer Prize winner John Carreyrou, filed a copyright lawsuit accusing six artificial intelligence giants of using pirated copies of their works to train large language models. The complaint submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California claims that Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, Meta, xAI, and Perplexity AI engaged in "intentional theft."
