# Africa Stock Market Closing Report | South African Stock Market Rises 0.5%, Gold and Silver Mining Stocks Lead

On Monday (January 5), the South African FTSE/JSE Africa Leading 40 Index closed up 0.51% at 109,000 points. Among the constituent stocks, Sibanye Stillwater rose 5.03%, Harmony Gold Mining (HAR.SJ) rose 4.29%, Anglo American Platinum (ANG) rose 3.17%, Gold Fields (GFI) rose 2.89%, and Impala Platinum Holdings (IMP) rose 2.64% to rank fifth. Compagnie Financière Richemont (CFR) fell 1.68% to rank fourth in decline, while British American Tobacco (BTI) fell 2.78% to perform the worst
