# Barclays has pushed back its forecast for the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut to June and December

Barclays economists have adjusted their expectations for the Federal Reserve's interest rate cuts to June and December, partly based on stronger-than-expected employment data for December. They had previously anticipated cuts in March and June.

Economists led by Marc Giannoni wrote in the report that the December employment data "indicates that the degree of slack in the labor market is lower than previously judged."

They stated that the current expectations for rate cuts "are predicated on the FOMC seeing compelling evidence that inflation will return to the 2% target over the next year."

The report noted that the risks to the forecast are balanced, meaning that if labor market conditions suddenly deteriorate, the FOMC may cut rates in March, while if inflation remains high, cuts may be delayed
